Increasing Access to Health

PRACTICAL GUIDELINES TO DESIGN AND MEASURE THE IMPACT OF GLOBAL HEALTH PROGRAMS

Innovations in Healthcare has designed and trialed a framework and guidebook to support the design and evaluation of private-sector supported global health programs. The framework, called the Access to Health Impact Framework, supports teams in designing, measuring, and evaluating the progress and outcomes of their programs. It encourages programs to consider three important domains for creating impact: 1) Health System; 2) Health or Therapeutic Area; 3) Patient Experience.

The framework has been applied to a flagship, private-sector supported program in Kenya focused on strengthening the health system for non-communicable diseases to improve the health of communities and individuals. This effort has been supported by Takeda Pharmaceuticals and our work is featured in their recent Access to Medicines Progress Report. The independent impact measurement framework provides up-to-date impact metrics to support live adaptation of programs to react to social developments on the ground in real time. We aim to share this framework with the industry to foster deeper collaboration and ensure that resources are being effectively deployed on an industry basis.

On this page you can download ourPractical Guide to Measuring the Impact of Global Health Programs” which offers an overview of the framework and a step-by-step process to impact measurement, including the developing of evaluation plans and data collection, analysis, and communication tips. Corresponding worksheets and templates are also available for download.

An online course, offering a Certificate of Completion from Duke University’s Global Health Innovation Center and Innovations in Healthcare, is a companion tool for those interested in a more interactive experience in learning how to create and measure impact.
